Locking rear differential

To help you negotiate uncertain terrain, 4Runner’s available electronically controlled locking rear differential distributes engine power evenly to both rear wheels, so they move at the same speed, even if one is off the ground. It is designed to help you maintain a controlled pace over obstacles.

Crawl Control

When the trail gets challenging, 4Runner’s available Crawl Control (CRAWL) is here to help you conquer your off-road adventure. This advanced system automatically modulates the throttle and brakes on five low-speed settings so you can keep your focus on navigating across difficult terrain.

Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS)

The available Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) helps 4Runner make molehills out of mountains. When taking on extreme off-road terrain, this system is designed to automatically decouple 4Runner’s sway bars as needed, helping improve wheel articulation. And when the terrain goes back to smooth and flat, the sway bars are designed to automatically reconnect.

4Runner is built to handle almost any terrain. All 4Runners get reinforced skid plates to help protect the engine, front suspension and fuel tank. And with 9.6 inches of ground clearance, an approach angle of 33 degrees and a departure angle of 26 degrees, all 4×4 4Runners are ready to help keep the adventure going.

Available Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) allows you to choose from four terrain modes that will regulate wheelspin by adjusting the engine throttle setting and braking pressure to help provide you with optimized traction in various off-road situations.

Its custom branded and removable 40-qt. cooler with tie-down straps keeps things cool while you’re burning up the trails. And with features such as a sliding cargo deck and Yakima® LoadWarrior cargo basket, you can bring your tent, sleeping bags and other gear with you out on the trails.

LED headlights and fog lights

Whether you’re beating the crowd to surf before dawn or driving home from the trail after dusk, 4Runner’s new standard LED headlights shine bright for greater visibility in the dark. Integrated backup camera

When backing up, the area visible to the camera is displayed on the 8-in. touchscreen. 4Runner’s available front and rear parking assist sonar beeps to tell you how close the bumpers are from a detected object. The faster it beeps, the closer the object is.

Side-Impact Door Beams

To help provide extra occupant protection if the vehicle is struck from the side, impact beams are located inside all doors and are designed to absorb energy and help reduce the chance of intrusion into the cabin.

Tire Pressure Monitor System⁷

Proper tire pressure is important not only for good handling and fuel economy, but also for your safety. 4Runner’s standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS)²³ evaluates the pressure of the tires and issues a warning if the pressure becomes critically low.
