Why is Camry so reliable?

For years the Camry has received the highest possible reliability rating from JD Power and Associates, and as of 2017, JD Power also named the Camry the “Most dependable after three years”. In the last 3 years, the Camry has had the least amount of owner-reported issues in comparison to all other vehicles. But what is it about the Camry that makes it so dependable? The Camry’s 2.5-Liter 4-Cylinder DOHC and 3.5-Liter V6 engines continually prove that they are sturdy, dependable engines, while the direct shift 8AT speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) allows for more advanced control schemes. How do Camry hybrids work?

Many people stray from Hybrid vehicles because they don’t truly understand how they work. “Don’t they have to be plugged in?” “Hybrids don’t have any power” – there are many misconceptions about Hybrids among car buyers. So how do Hybrid vehicles work? When you first start your Hybrid vehicle, the electric motor gives it power while the petrol engine remains idle. Once you speed up, the petrol engine and the electric motor work together in order to power the vehicle while still maintaining fuel efficiency. When you begin driving up a hill, the electric motor and petrol engine will work together once again, and once you begin to decline or slow down, the vehicle relies on the battery and electronic motors alone. When you stop your vehicle, the regenerative braking technology restores energy to the vehicle’s battery in order to keep the electric motor running. No plug-in? No problem.

How long will my Camry last?

As stated earlier, the Camry is one of the most dependable vehicles available. In fact, Consumer Reports rates the Camry among the “10 cars most likely to go 200,000 miles”. The Camry also made it in to Fortune’s list of 15 “Cars people are still driving after 15 years” list (Along with 8 other Toyota models. Just sayin’.)

Can a Camry tow a trailer?

To make a long story short, no. While the Camry has a towing capacity of 1,000 pounds, it is not recommended that you tow anything with your Camry. This could cause damage to the vehicle which could in turn make it perform improperly.

Where is the parking brake on a Camry?

Many earlier model Camry’s have a foot-press parking brake on the left side below the dashboard. To turn the parking brake on, just put one foot on the brake and use the other to push the parking brake down towards the floorboard. To release the parking brake, simply press down on it again.

Some 2018 Camry models come equipped with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). This button is located near the shift lever, and simply pulling the button up will enable the parking brake. To disable it, just push the button back down.
