Go Anywhere! With the new Toyota Camry and Avalon AWD
Summer, winter, spring and fall, other than being all seasons, these four also share the common thread of being the perfect time for going on adventures! You know adventures, right? Going off the beaten path, a side road off the main stretch that isn’t paved, getting lost following some winding treeline before finally arriving at some destination you never knew existed? It’s a Spielberg movie, It’s a reunion with friends, it’s ADVENTURE. And Toyota is making it easy to go on those kinds of adventures with the new All Wheel Drive Camry and Avalon.
Available as a standalone option on the Camry LE, XLE, SE and XSE models, and available on the Avalon XLE and Limited grades, these dependable sedans are getting a significant upgrade in the traction department to compete with their Crossover and SUV brethren. Although you’re getting AWD, you’re not sacrificing any of the legendary gas mileage that Toyota is known for!
So how does it work? Using a modified version of the Rav 4’s AWD system, the Dynamic Torque Control AWD system provides effective traction for any weather including slippery/inclement/muddy/rough terrain, basically anything that you can think of, the new Camry and Avalon has you covered. The system directs up to half of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels in response to the vehicle slipping, and can disengage the AWD to prioritize fuel efficiency when everything is normal. This is all conveyed to the driver and the passengers when operating the vehicle, and speaking of passengers, the AWD versions of the Camry and Avalon for their counterparts in passenger space, ride comfort, trunk room, vehicle agility, and cabin quietness.
If this sounds right up your alley, then you can expect the All Wheel Drive Camry to arrive in early Spring of 2020! As for the AWD Avalon, customers will have to wait a bit longer until next fall with the 2021 models of the Avalon. All AWD models can get an optional cold-weather package, and customers can expect the AWD version of the vehicles to drive and handle like their FWD counterparts, with the added traction capability of a Crossover or SUV.
