Although the newly re-designed Toyota Supra has only been officially out to consumers for a year, Toyota has already made some changes concerning the 2021 Toyota Supra. These improvements, like more horsepower, better handling, and even a brand new engine are sure to surprise and please new customers buying the sporty sedan. Today, let’s take a look at what those improvements are in detail, and go over what they mean to new and returning customers to Toyota.

The 2021 Toyota 3.0: Improving on the updated classic.

For those of you that tested out the 2020 Supra or have read articles or performance reviews on it, you might have heard that it did not have the best stability when it came to rougher than glass terrain on the roads. Fortunately, Toyota Returned this year with improved dampener tuning for the chassis, as well as adding new bumpstops for the front and rear including aluminum braces that will improve lateral rigidity. On top of all of that, they changed the adaptable variable suspension, electronic stability control, and the electronic power steering which will all in all increase cornering stability and improve upon roll resistance.Some changes have also been made to the 3.0’s engine as well, improving the power and the torque to 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft respectively. 

The 2021 Toyota 2.0: The new kid on the block.

First, let us acknowledge the elephant in the room, the Supra 2.0 does have a four-cylinder turbo engine instead of the six cylinder. This engine, a dynamic 2.0-liter turbo-four that is the same in BMW’s is the first time Toyota has offered a turbo 4 cylinder engine in the Supra bodystyle.

So what does this ultimately mean?

The 2.0 is going to be about 200 pounds lighter, due to mainly the fact of losing 2 cylinders in the engine as well as the absence of an active differential and adaptive suspension. Which, according to Toyota, puts it at 0-60 mph in 5.0 seconds flat. Compared to last year’s model, Toyota changed the chassis and tuning as well, giving the driver amazing control around tight, windy corners. Complementing the tuning and chassis, the 2.0 Supra’s steering was tuned as well, making it feel more responsive and decisive over its more sluggish feeling 3.0 brother. They also tuned the brakes as well, opting for smaller front rotors and single-piston calipers over the four at each corner that we have in the 3.0. That isn’t to say that the braking power isn’t there however, the 2.0 will still be able to stop on a dime, crucial for a GT car with the nameplate of the safe Toyota brand.

How much will they cost?

The 2.0 Supra is looking at costing you $43,945  MSRP for its base model, but you might want to look at getting that technology package which is going to bump the price up higher to $47,430.

The 3.0 however is getting an $1,000 price increase from last years model with the new one costing you around $51,945 with the Premium 3.0 model costing you $55,445.
