Enabling and disabling Toyotas Lane Departure

Toyota’s Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is an invaluable safety feature available on select Toyota models. It is part of the comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense package, which includes various advanced driver-assist safety aids. Mastering the operation of Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is straightforward across all Toyota models.

What is Toyota’s Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist?

Toyota’s Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist employs a combination of sensors and radar technology to detect when your Toyota deviates from its lane without using the turn signals. If the system detects an abrupt or unexpected lane change while on the highway, it engages a steering assist mechanism to help the vehicle maintain its lane. The system activates when the vehicle is traveling at speeds above 32 MPH on the highway.

How to Activate Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist:

Activating Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is a simple process. Follow these steps:

1. Locate the Lane Departure Alert/Lane Trace Assist button on the steering wheel of your Toyota car.

2. Press and hold the button until you see an indicator light illuminate.

3. Access the ‘Settings’ menu on the Toyota’s multi-information display (MID).

4. Navigate to the Steering Assist menu and select ‘On’ for the safety feature.
5. Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist is now activated.

In addition to setting up Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, you can utilize the informational display center in your Toyota to customize the Steering Assist component of the safety system. If the message “LDA On. Steering Assist Active” appears, both safety features are fully operational. When your vehicle unexpectedly changes lanes, Steering Assist will make minor adjustments to keep the car centered. The message “LDA On. Steering Assist Inactive” indicates that the safety system won’t automatically steer the vehicle back into its lane if it starts to drift. However, Lane Departure Alert is still active, triggering an audible alert if the car changes lanes without using the turn signals. The message “LDA Unavailable Below Approx. 32 MPH” signifies that the safety system is active but not functioning since the vehicle’s speed is below the threshold required for activation.

If Lane Departure Alert is currently active, simply press the Lane Departure Alert button to turn off the system. The icon will disappear from the infotainment display.
