Beat Winter in a 2017 Toyota Highlander

Winter is here! Since no one has figured out how to put a drivetrain and wheels on an igloo, check out the next best thing. The 2017 Highlander has everything you need to ride out the season in safety, comfort, and style. Here are just a handful of the technologies the Highlander offers to get you through the harsh roadway conditions.

2017 Toyota Highlander

Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive (AWD)

When roads get slick with rain, snow, and sleet, Toyota’s exclusive AWD system helps keep you in control and on the pavement. This option is available for any Highlander trim level.

The system utilizes input from multiple sensors that monitor everything from throttle angle to steering speed to yaw rate. It then intelligently determines how much torque to send to the rear wheels using an electromagnetic coupling in the rear differential. If wheel slippage is detected, or the accelerator is hit while cornering, AWD automatically kicks in.

For optimum control in rough low-speed driving conditions up to 25 mph, you can hit an AWD LOCK switch to set 50:50 torque distribution between the front and rear wheels. Under normal conditions, the system defaults to front-wheel drive to maintain optimum fuel efficiency. The multi-information display keeps you informed about AWD settings in real time.

Interior Comforts

Demanding driving conditions aren’t the only challenge during the winter months. It’s also important that both driver and passengers are comfortable. That’s why the 2017 Highlander offers premium interior options that include three-zone climate control with settings for the driver, front passenger, and rear occupants. A heated steering wheel may seem excessively luxurious, but if you’ve ever climbed into a driver’s seat in sub-zero weather, you know it’s sometimes a necessity.

The 2017 Highlander also offers seat heaters not only in the front but also for the second-row captain’s chairs or outboard seats. Integrated second-row sunshades are handy for reducing glare from puddles and snow.

Safety Technologies

Visibility is key for safe driving, and the Highlander has you covered. Fog lights and projector headlamps keep the road ahead well-lit. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, rain-sensing wipers and an intermittent rear wiper ensure a clear view of the highway. Waking to a snowy morning will never be a hassle, thanks to the Highlander’s optional windshield wiper de-icers.

Visibility to other drivers is critical as well. The Highlander makes its presence known with LED taillights and stop lights. Integrated side mirror turn signals make your intentions clear, and puddle lighting helps guarantee that other drivers will see you.

Standard in the Platinum Highlander is Toyota’s innovative Bird’s Eye View Camera with Perimeter Scan. This system renders the standard backup camera obsolete by offering a top-down panoramic view of your Highlander’s surroundings. Perimeter Scan offers a live rotating 360-degree view around your vehicle.

Just because the winter can make things unpleasant outside doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Year-round freedom can be yours, without compromising safety and comfort, thanks to the many technologies and features the 2017 Highlander has to offer.
