About The New 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback

March 27th, 2018 by

The 2019 Corolla hatchback made it’s debut at the New York International Auto Show earlier this year, and while it may be small, it has big advantages compared to the Corolla iM. This new and improved, sporty hatch will be available this summer. Learn more about Toyota’s newest compact vehicle:

Exterior Style

The exterior of the Corolla hatchback has many noticeable improvements from the Corolla iM, and a few subtle ones as well. For instance, the Corolla hatchback is lower and wider than the iM, while the hood sits two inches lower for increased visibility.

The new, bold exterior is lead by the J-shaped headlamps that wrap around the front of the vehicle. For additional safety and convenience, the XSE model  comes with standard LED fog lights and an available Adaptive Front Lighting system (AFS) with Bi-Beam LED units that move both horizontally and vertically to provide optimal light based on your vehicle’s steering angle, speed and longitudinal axles.

To improve the bold exterior even more, the XSE trim level comes with standard 18-inch wheels and a chrome front grille surround. Both SE and XSE trim levels are available in 7 exterior colors, including: Blizzard Pearl, Galactic Aqua Mica, Midnight Black, Oxide Bronze, Rival Blue, Scarlet and Silver Metallic.

Interior Design

The stunning interior comes with supportive sport seats, a high resolution 8-inch floating touch screen, digitized climate controls and more. Here are a few key interior differences between SE and XSE trim levels:

SE: Single-zone automatic climate control is standard on the SE trim level, along with a leather shifter knob, steering wheel paddle shifters, an electronic parking brake, SmartKey system and auto up/down windows.

XSE: The XSE adds on to the impressive features of the SE, with dual-zone climate control, combination leather seats with heated front seats, an 8-way power drivers’ seat, a 7-inch Multi-Information display (MID) and integrated turn-by-turn navigation.

Multimedia & Technology

Staying connected is important in our ever-so-connected world. That’s why the Corolla hatchback SE features Entune 3.0 Audio with an 8-inch touchscreen display that supports both Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration. Add in App Suite Connect, Safety Connect and Verizon Wi-Fi Connect and you’re ready to hit the road with all the services you could need to stay connected.

The XSE, on the other hand, comes standard with Entune 3.0 Audio Plus with HD Radio, SirusXM, Entune 3.0 Connected Services, Service Connect and Remote Connect. Enjoy all your favorite music on the 8 JBL speakers with Clari-Fi that also come standard on the XSE trim level.

The TNGA-based powertrain and 2.0L dynamic force direct injection inline 4-cylinder engine help increase the power and performance of the newest Corolla. The 2.0L engine is both smaller and lighter than the engine in the Corolla iM, which helps with balance and makes for a quieter ride overall.

Advanced Safety Technology

The Corolla hatchback will be the first American Toyota vehicle to feature the second generation of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2.0). The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD) can now detect vehicles and pedestrians during night-time driving conditions, and can now also detect bicyclists in the daytime. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) has also been updated to Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, meaning the DRCC will now work anywhere from 0-110 mph. Additionally, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA) now has the ability to detect the edge of the road in some circumstances. The Automatic High Beam (AHB) feature now has the capability of automatically activating/deactivating the high beams based on the environment you’re driving in. And finally, a new feature has been added to TSS: Lane Tracing Assist. This new feature is for highways and freeways only, and has the ability to recognize white and yellow lane markings as well as the path of the preceding vehicle in order to track the center of the lane by providing steering assistance.

Both SE and XSE models also come with 7 standard airbags and Toyota’s Star Safety System, which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Stop Technology. While Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) is available on SE, it comes standard on XSE.
